45 SMEs from 19 countries have been selected in the latest round (25 November cut-off) of Horizon 2020’s SME Instrument Phase 2.
Each project, 30 in total, will receive between €0.5 and €2.5 million (€5 million for health projects) to bring their products from pilot-phase to the market.
The European Commission received 1090 project proposals under Phase 2 by 2015’s last cut-off date: 25 November. SMEs from the UK were the most successful, counting with 7 beneficiaries who will receive €10 million in total, closely followed by 6 Italian SMEs who will share €4.3 million.
Funding under Phase 2 allows companies to invest in innovation activities such as demonstration, testing, product improvement and optimisation, scaling up and miniaturisation, in addition to developing a mature business plan for their products. The funded SMEs also benefit for free from 12 days of business coaching.
